- The Elegies §16 Sulpicia, the daughter of Servius
Sulpicia (fl. c. 20 BC) is the author herself — the only woman poet whose work survives from classical Rome in any substantial form. Her full identification as 'Servi filia Sulpicia' (daughter of Servius) names her father Servius Sulpicius Rufus or, more likely, links her to a distinguished branch of the gens Sulpicia; she was related to Messalla Corvinus.
